Our research falls under the broad heading of cardiovascular mechanics. It is chiefly concerned with atherosclerosis, a disease characterised by the accumulation of fat, cells and fibrous proteins in the arterial wall that underlies most heart attacks and strokes.

  • We have published a paper on the importance of lysosomal oxidation of LDL in atherosclerosis; the results show that antioxidant drugs which concentrate in lysosomes might provide a novel therapy for this disease.

  • Ryan and Mehwish both attended BioMedEng19. Mehwish won a BHF Travel Award to give a talk and Ryan presented two posters.

  • Ryan won the Department of Bioengineering’s GTA of the Year Award. Congratulations Ryan!

  • The team completed the BHF London to Brighton charity bike ride! Amongst other things, the BHF fund incredibly important research in the fight against cardiovascular disease - including that done by many of our group members.
